The sleepy, hidden village of Michiana, with its charming log cabins, was built around a giant oak known as the “Old Indian Signal Oak”. This southernmost town of Harbor Country is the summer residence for a number of well known Chicago celebrities, and is best known for its quiet relaxing cottage neighborhoods that lie within the earshot of the Lake Michigan surf. Once the meeting point for many area Indian Tribes to trade their wares the streets of Michiana are named after many of those Tribes. The local beach goers often find Indian Beads and Artifacts washed up on the pristine sandy beaches of Michiana’s large Lake Michigan coastline. Michiana is partly in the State of Michigan and partly in the State of Indiana and is Chicago’s first and quickest stop into Harbor Country.
