There's an eighty foot strip of land near the Lake Michigan coastline that has largely been considered just a simple piece of public lakefront land, a public right of way if you will. Never thought of as a piece of real Lake Michigan property, the Wilmette Park District Real Estate Commission may soon be changing its status.
A couple of local residents have reached out to the Wilmette Park District Real Estate Commission in an effort to turn the land—which has been unmaintained—into a piece of genuine Lake Michigan real estate. The sudden decision to do something with the land might have something to do with the fact that it may also be sold to adjacent homeowners who are considering turning the vacant land into a beach house. A number of the residents in the area however wish to see the land remain kept in the public domain.
Some of the ideas thrown around for use of the land include a simple nature area with a path leading down to the beach. Whatever decision is ultimately made on this land reaching over to the eastern end of Elmwood Avenue, it should serve to improve the area. What kind of Lake Michigan property do you think this piece of land should be turned into?
